The 7x7 Competition: A Detailed Overview

As part of the Al Galala International Film Festival’s official activities, the festival is proud to announce the call for entries for its signature 7×7 Competition. This unique initiative is designed to discover new talent and support young, emerging creators in the field of short filmmaking.

The Concept

Seven promising young directors will be selected from the pool of applicants. Each chosen director will be tasked with creating a short film, a journey that embodies the spirit of creativity and challenge within a limited timeframe and with accessible production resources.

Submission and Selection Process

  • How to Apply: Submissions are managed by the festival administration. Aspiring young directors must send their short film projects and concepts before the announced deadline.

  • The Jury: A specialized committee, comprising prominent directors and screenwriters, will carefully review all submitted projects.

  • Selection: The top seven projects will be selected based on the quality of the concept and its production feasibility.

Project Development Phase

Once the seven projects are selected, the festival team, in collaboration with the jury, will work closely with the directors to nurture and develop their projects until they are ready for shooting. This phase includes dedicated mentoring sessions and specialized workshops.

Support Provided by the Festival

The festival will provide the selected projects with essential support, including:

  • Professional camera, lighting, and sound equipment.

  • A pool of talented actors.

  • Access to suitable filming locations.

A key condition is that all filming must take place within the Galala and Ain Sokhna region. This is to leverage the area’s stunning natural landscapes and available logistical advantages.

The Final Outcome

By the end of the program, each of the seven directors will have produced their short film. These seven films will then be premiered in a special screening program during the official events of the Al Galala International Film Festival.
